Parts of the Urinary System
  • Kidneys: Excrete by-products such as urea, salts and water and filtration of waste from blood

  • Renal Artery: Blood enters the kidneys from here

  • Renal Vein: Blood leaves the kidneys from here.

  • Bladder: Where urine is stored until excretion

  • Ureter: Connects kidney to bladder

  • Urethra: The tube by which urine leaves the body

Notes on the Excretory System
  • The body has 3 organs of excretion. The skin, kidneys and lungs

  • The lungs excrete carbon dioxide and water vapour

  • The kidneys excrete salt, water and urea. Another function of the kidenys are to control the amount of water in the body and filtration

  • The skin excretes salt and water

What is Urine?
  • Urine is a mixture of salt, water and urea

  • This urea comes from the breakdown of proteins in the liver

The Kidneys
  • As you know the kidneys exrete salt, water and urea

  • Urea comes from the breakdown of protein in the liver
