C. (i) Council of Trent: The council of Trent was a meeting of Bishops and Cardinal called by the Pope. The purpose of the meeting was to prevent any more people from leaving the catholic church. This attempt was known as the counter-reformation. During this meeting the Pope set down the main beliefs of the catholic church. These beliefs was the fact that the Pope was the undisputed leader of the church, that they believed in 7 sacrements and that both faith and good works were required to go to heavan. They wrote these beliefs down in a book called the Catholic catechism. The Pope also demanaded that the Cardinal and the Bishops live simpler lives like jesus did and that all abuses such as Simony and nepotism must be banned. As well as this he encouraged a number of new Religious orders to improve their knowledge of the catholic church scuh as the Jesuits set up by Ignatius Loyola
